Abstract

A routine procedure (dental prophylaxis) was performed in a 3-year-old canine patient. The intervention was uneventful except for the infiltration of a peripheral venous catheter placed in the cephalic vein. Twenty-four hours after the procedure, the patient’s owner reported the onset of weight-bearing lameness in the affected limb, which progressively worsened over the following days. Clinical examination revealed necrosis of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, coinciding with the catheter placement site. Following the implementation of a local wound management plan, the patient showed favorable recovery and was discharged, with only a mild cutaneous retraction at the cicatricial area as a sequela.
